HELP STOP the POISONING!

Applied Knowledge is power ~ Prevention is key

2011 OPEN LETTER TO:  The U.S. President Obama, Governors, members of Congress and Senate of the United States of America, Presidents, Prime Ministers and World Leaders around the globe,

Toxic exposures and the devastating toll they take on our health, lives, livelihood, environment, and our natural resources are increasing at an alarming rate! You can’t pick up a newspaper, listen to a radio, watch TV or browse the Internet without learning of one toxic disaster after another. We, the people, carry the direct consequences of those disasters. Many toxins are carcinogenic, endocrine (hormone) disrupting, respiratory irritants, and cause many other serious health effects. Several of these are listed on the EPA, RCRA and CERCIA Hazardous waste lists. Many more aren’t adequately tested and their toxicity is listed as “suspected.” More people are becoming disabled from the devastating effects of these unnecessary exposures and are forced to seek public aid. Toxic exposures create loss of otherwise productive workers, a tragedy to them and the economy. We must STOP the Poisoning.  We must protect the health, lives, livelihood and rights of all our citizens, the environment and our natural resources. We must use safer products and procedures, and stop toxic practices that cause asthma, autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases and other toxic related illness, which are devastating to people, the health care system, work and school performance and attendance, insurance costs and the economy before it is too late.

Prevention, Avoidance, Accountability and Responsibility of Toxic usage and subsequent exposures must be of the highest National and World priority. Therefore, we are compelled to once again implore you to help STOP the poisoning and support Toxic Injury Awareness, Education and Prevention.

Toxic exposures/injuries are a very serious issue that is pandemic and demands your immediate attention, time, acknowledgment and your corrective action. Toxic Injury is unequivocally physically, and financially devastating to the people, the economy and the environment. Toxic Injury can affect the respiratory, central nervous, immune, musculoskeletal, porphyrin, metabolism and hormone systems.  It can cause abnormal egg, sperm, genital deformity or cancers such as prostate, breast, leukemia, brain and others. Toxic Injury devastates the immune system and is often characterized by medical intolerance (chemical sensitivity, asthma trigger, etc) to minute amounts of air pollution, petrochemicals, mold and other toxins found in our homes, our everyday products and environment. It can be caused by acute or chronic exposure. Toxic Injury is non-partisan, it transcends the boundaries of race, color, creed, economic level, social status, educational status, age, gender, urban or rural dweller, blue or white collar, or sexual preference. It is, tongue in cheek, an equal opportunity disability. . . Medical conditions aggravated by toxic exposures include migraine, asthma, sinusitis, otitis, emphysema, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, liver disease, neuro-degenerative conditions, cancers, fibromyalgia, and many more diseases involving inflammation. Once damaged, our bodies adversely react to toxic substances at much lower levels, which cause difficulty breathing, impair balance, thinking, seizures, etc.

Therefore, we petition President Barack Obama, Governors, members of Congress and Senate of the United States, and all World Leaders to exercise your power and responsibility and take immediate appropriate action to protect the health and welfare of our children, grandchildren, our future generations, your constituents, our current workforce, our environment, and natural resources and declare May: “Toxic Injury Awareness, Education and Prevention Month”.

The majority of our current health care professionals and welfare programs are unprepared to recognize, diagnose or treat those suffering from toxic exposures/injuries.  Through adequate training and continuing education they will be better able to identify and treat toxic injury/illness early, before disability develops. Misdiagnosis, mistreatment, and discrimination against those with toxin exacerbated illness can be avoided as government officials; health professionals, family members and society become more educated on these serious toxic illnesses.

While we credit the CDC, ATSDR & EPA for the National Conversation on Public Health and Chemical Poisoning, the remediation’s from this program are years away.,. we need help and recognition now!

  Official Request for Proclamation to President Obama

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
January 23, 2011
Dear President Obama,
As you know, we are all concerned about the possibility of chemical attacks by terrorist against the United States and how to best protect us from such harm. Mr. President, the reality of toxic chemical exposures and the known health damage and destruction that they are forcing upon the people, the environment and our natural resources is so grim that no one wants to admit it ~ but, address it we must or be held accountable for it!
We come today asking you to protect the citizens of the United States of America from the daily assaults of toxic chemicals found in our everyday personal and household products and the environment through awareness and education.
There is no justification to allow continued exposures when less toxic and non-toxic alternatives are readily available, affordable and effective. Our pain and suffering has been long and ongoing, far too many have lost their health, jobs, financial stability, and quality of life. Many of us have had to prematurely bury our loved ones, many just babies.
The discrimination that we, the toxically injured, face pervades every public and private venue. It includes law enforcement, judicial system, medical professionals, stores, libraries, schools, churches, and even neighbors that deliberately use excessive chemical (pesticides, perfume, laundry fragrance, etc) as a means to assault and imprison us. Whether we meet with compassion or prejudice depends upon whether the person in question has a toxic injury or knows someone, they care about, with one. Education and Awareness make all the difference.
We need and deserve the same acknowledgment, respect, support and help allotted to other illnesses & disabilities. Prevention would not only lower medical, and disability costs, it is the right thing to do!
Please STOP the POISONING and DISCRIMINATION. Declare May Toxic Injury Awareness, Education and Prevention month.
Sincerely, your friends in Hope & Health,
Peggy, Julia, Jennifer and John
