Aloe Vera - a yucca-like plant, has been used for a variety of curative powers for centuries. Aloe Vera contain more than 200 nutritional substances including salicylates, which have both anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. An enzyme in Aloe Vera has been found to inhibit bradykinin -- a producer of pain in inflamed tissue.

Well designed studies have shown Aloe Vera effective in inhibiting pain, blocking inflammation and restoring bone growth -- in essence; both healing and arresting arthritis.

Aloe Vera is famous for its remarkable skin-healing and skin-enhancing abilities. But what many people don't know is that this herbal wonder also works effectively as an internal health aid. As scientists are discovering, Aloe Vera is indicated for relieving gastrointestinal complaints. It possesses anti-inflammatory compounds, helps boost the defense system and words as a system cleanser.

Aloe Vera contains at least three anti-inflammatory fatty acids which are helpful for the gastrointestinal tract, such as the stomach, small intestine and colon. It naturally alkalizes the digestive juices to prevent overacidity - a common cause of indigestion. Aloe Vera encourages healthy elimination; it is one of the most powerful herbal supports for a chronically sluggish colon. It helps cleanse the digestive tract by exerting a soothing, balancing effect.

One newly discovered compound in Aloe Vera, acemannan, is currently being studied for its contribution in strengthening natural resistance. Some studies gave shown that acemannan helps boost T-lymphocyte cells (the cells which are involved in the immunity of the body). Other studies have identified antiviral factors in Aloe Vera.

Aloe Vera promotes healthy liver function and helps protect the liver from chemical toxins. Nutritionally, it is a valuable source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes.

Those wise to the ways of aloe healing keep this plant in the kitchen. When the leaf is broken, it's gel is placed on burns to relieve pain and prevent blisters. Aloe may reduce inflammation, decrease swelling and redness, and accelerate wound healing. Aloe can aid in keeping the skin supple, and has been used in the control of acne and pimples. It can relieve itching due to insect bites and allergies.

Cedarwood - we use an organic cedarwood oil reclaimed from cedarwod trimmings - recycling! Cedarwood is perhaps the first plant used to make an essential oil; ancient Egyptians used it in their mummification rituals. It's antiseptic, fungicidal, purifying, and an excellent insect repellant (it has been used, along with citronella essential oil, to make a commercial insecticide). Cedarwood is sacred to Native Americans, and used very often in the spiritual and cleansing rituals of many people. Cedar is an excellent skin cleanser and helps combat acne, oily skin and scalp, and helps relieve dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis, as well as dandruff. . Also may be useful for arthritis and rheumatism. Aromatherapeutically, cedarwood is very soothing and calming, easing nerves and menial tension. Not to be used during pregnancy.


Cinnamon - warm, spicy - a tonic, great for circulation and sore muscles. Cinnamon is also a strong antiseptic. Cinnamon has always been associated with money, trade and prosperity.


Citronella - Citrus with woodsy undertones. An excellent bug repellant, also considered to have deodorizing properties and to be uplifting - may even help headaches.

Clary Sage - Green, herbal, tea-like oil that is antidepressant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, astringent, deodorant. Excellent for use on the skin, it helps treat dandruff and fungus, and is a wonderful treatment for dry and aging skin. It reduces inflammation, is helpful in clearing up acne, and is useful in diminishing wrinkles.

Eucalyptus - Sharp, fresh and camphorous. Excellent as a decongestant, and a powerful tonic to the upper respiratory tract, it's also a natural insect repellant and is reputed to kill airborne bacteria. Excellent also for aches, sprains, and poor circulation, and can be helpful in easing headaches. A powerful antibacterial, eucalyptus is excellent for wounds, infections, sores and acne. Helps clear and refresh your senses and emotions, and can aid concentration. Excellent overall for health, purification and healing.

Garlic - is the most powerful natural antibiotic known in the form of pure food. Against its juice, cold, flu, and virus germs don’t stand a chance. It cuts phlegm, fights infections and clears sinuses, bronchial tubes, and lungs. It kills the most horrible germs even leprosy, gonorrhea, and gangrene in five (5) minutes flat.

In lab test, these germs were actually hurled to the side of a culture dish! One tiny milligram of garlic had the same power as 25 units of penicillin.

It is such a powerful herb that when rubbed on one’s feet, it quickly passes into the bloodstream and can have a beneficial effect in the lungs. A garlic plaster placed on the soles of the feet is very good for stopping coughs and relieving colds. It can be made by mincing several cloves of garlic, mixing them with a little olive oil, and applying this to the bottom of the feet.

Garlic has long been known as a miracle antiseptic in cases involving eye, ear nose and throat infection. As Kristine Nolfi, M.D., says in MY Experiences with Living Food: “ If one puts a piece of garlic in his mouth, at the onset of a cold, on both sides between cheek and teeth, the cold will disappear within a few hours or, at most, within a day.”

Garlic also has a curative effect on chronic diseases in the upper respiratory organs, the doctor says, absorbing the poisons – and this is true for “chronic inflammation of the tonsils, salivary glands and neighboring lymph glands, empyema of the maxillary sinus, severe pharyngitis and laryngitis” and other conditions.

Got an earache? Just wrap the plant in some gauze, says the doctor, and place it in the outer-ear         canal.

Got a headache? Garlic is nature’s aspirin, dilating the veins and arteries to relieve congestion. Just squeeze some garlic juice into a teaspoon of honey (it’s an old American Indian remedy).

Sneezing, stuffy nose, or allergy got you down? Try a little diced garlic downed in water. Garlic reportedly works miracles in such cases.

Garlic’s major value in liver disorders is its power to detoxify putrefactive bacteria in the intestines and thereby give the liver a rest. It is a proven stimulator of gastric juices, which help digestion, and an aid to increase and vigorous blood circulation through the liver.

It is claimed that a teaspoon of garlic minced with a tablespoon of olive oil or soybean oil, taken at night, will liven the liver and so rejuvenate it that the skin of the body will glow with renewed activity. Users say it is indeed a miracle vegetable

Ginger - smells just like fresh gingerroot - sharp, pungent, spicy. Excellent for achey muscles, arthritis, rheumatism, and to promote circulation. Its warming qualities are good to use for feelings of loneliness and winter depression, and its energizing properties make it a good aphrodisiac.

Lavender - fresh, clean, and unmistakably "lavender" - no other way to describe it! A great "balancing" herb, wonderful for all skin types. One aromatherapy book says "Lavender is kind to everyone and fixes just about anything" and we agree! Great for headaches, stress relief, general relaxation, it's also purifying and calming. Lavender is a highly effective anti-inflammatory agent and is useful in treating stings, bites, burns, eczema, dermatitis, bruises, and acne. Has a wonderful ability to neutralize toxins. Scott Cunningham advises, in his book Magical Aromatherapy, to have a lavender-scented bath at least once a week as a "health-maintaining ritual". Great advice!

Lemon - Bright and uplifting, makes your mouth pucker! Citrus oils stimulate the microcirculation of your skin so they're wonderful for cellulite, wrinkles and dull skin. Wonderfully refreshing. Lemon essential oil has been called "the aromatic substitute for a cup of coffee". Lemon essential oil is extremely cleansing and purifying and is a potent antiseptic. Applied to the skin, lemonessential oil will keep bacteria and infections at bay, and also helps promote scar tissue. It is also a antirheumatic (relieves pain), and stimulates the immune system. It's an excellent toner and tonic for oily skin and hair. It even repels moths and ants! Please do not apply this essential oil directly before going into the sun, as it can be photosensitizing .

Lemongrass - Crisp, bright lemon with a deep, woodsy undertone. A wonderful insect repellant that also smells amazing. Lemongrass is excellent for purification, and is said to be helpful in promoting psychic awareness. It's invigorating and simulating, with powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.

Mint (peppermint) - Minty, strong and fresh. Uplifting and invigorating! Wonderful for sore muscles and tired feet. Also a natural insect repellant, and is a good treatment for many skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and dandruff. It's an anti-inflammatory agent that helps relieve arthritis and sciatica. Peppermint's "peppy" fragrance helps aid concentration and memory, and relieve mental fatigue and depression. Very cleansing and purifying

Orange - Sweet citrus, sunshine in a bottle. Citrus oils stimulate the microcirculation of your skin so they're wonderful for cellulite, wrinkles and dull skin. Said to stimulate both physical and magical energy as well as relieve depression and cause feelings of joy and happiness. Orange essential oil is a great skin tonic; it supports tissue regeneration and is stimulating and rejuvenating. Like other citrus essential oils, orange essential oil has photosensitizing properties (can accelerate sunburn) so don't put it on before a long sunny walk outdoors.

Patchouli - Some say it's earthy, rich, musky, and sultry. Other say it smells musty, dirty, "cave-like" - yuk! You'll either love it or hate it! Wonderful for dry or mature skins, this is also an aphrodisiac and antidepressant. It's also excellent for dry hair and scalp, and is a tissue regenerator and an antiseptic. Patchouli is also said to promote psychic awareness and helps to clarify your thoughts.

Rosemary - essential oil is stimulating, invigorating, and energizing to the skin, hair, and the mind! Rosemary has long been associated with remembrance, and is said to enhance mental abilities and memory. It's an effective antiseptic and astringent, and is useful in treating dandruff, acne, and calming down overactively oily skin/hair.

Tea Tree - This Australian herb was brought to the attention of the world by the explorer Captain James Cook. His crew went ashore and made a tea from the leaves of a shrubby tree. They later discovered that the native people, the aborigines, always used leaves of this tree as an antiseptic for insect bites, cuts, and wounds. The oil made from the leaves is presently known worldwide and is highly antiseptic, antifungal an effective germicide, and used on bites, burns, abrasions cuts, warts, athlete’s foot, acne, nits and yeast infection. and cold sores. Watch for a possible mild irritation in people with high skin sensitivity. We use tea tree oil for damp dusting, mopping floors, to clean and sanitize shower walls and windowsills and on kitchen counter tops. Put several drops into spray bottle and clean away.

Ylang-Ylang - A heady, exotic floral from Indonesia - thick and rich. Ylang-ylang translates as "flower of flowers"; this amazing, sweetly scented essential oil is wonderfully balancing. Excellent for both oily and dry skin, this oils also helps restore mental harmony and balance, creating feelings of peace and warmth. Reputed to be an aphrodisiac, antidepressant, anti-infectious, antiseptic, nervine and sedative. Excellent for general skin care and also for acne, ylang-ylang is also a wonderful antiseptic.
