What about those Mosquitoes?

Avoidance is your #1 defense at home

Make sure to change the water every few days in your outdoor pet hydration areas and birdbaths and kiddy pools.

Many bromeliads are able to store  water in a "tank" formed by their tightly-overlapping leaf bases . Flush these every week or prepare for a mosquito invasion.

Plant saucers and containers should be drained or flushed weekly.

Keep grass cut and shrubbery well trimmed to eliminate cool hiding places.

Check for holes in trees where water can collect. Flush them once a week or fill the holes with sand.

Clean out your eaves and gutters.

Turn over or remove anything in your yard that can collect water.

Remove old tires and drill holes for drainage in seats of tire swings.

Repairs all screens and caulk any entries to house.

Repel Them:

Mosquitoes are not strong flyers. Simply keep a fan blowing them out of your area.

Rosemary, basil, thyme, lemon peel oil, lemongrass, lemon-scented geranium, clove oil, peppermint, spearmint, yarrow, listerine and vinegar… all repel mosquitoes.

Grilling? Toss a little rosemary or sage on the coals.

Try these easy tips:

Avoid wearing floral or fruity fragrances
