President George W. Bush,
We write on behalf of the millions of people nationwide who are suffering from toxic injury. People are dying, lives are being destroyed and families are being ripped apart physically, emotionally and financially. We need to know why we are not being extended the same acknowledgment, respect, support and help allotted to other illnesses & disabilities.
Having received no notice to the contrary, we can only come to the conclusion that you declined our proclamation designating May as National "MCS" Awareness and Education month. No one can take away the pain, suffering and disabilities forced upon us by toxic exposures nor can anyone heal the hole in our hearts left by the senseless and premature death of our loved ones. - But - you Sir can help prevent this tragedy from happening to yet more families. We read somewhere "Between yesterday's regrets and tomorrow's dreams is today's opportunity." Please Mr. President, utilize this opportunity to benefit all mankind.
Our hope is that through awareness and education the misdiagnoses, mistreatment and discrimination against those with toxic injuries will cease once our government officials; medical professionals, family members and society in general become more educated on these serious issues. Once aware of the dangers and of the readily available safer choices, people will be better equipped to make informed decisions, to better protect themselves and their loved ones against these dangerous and unnecessary exposures and be more supportive to those already adversely affected.
Due to the seriousness of our toxic injuries many of us are homebound and can’t personally come to Washington to express our concerns; so we have started a petition via email. At this time we have only reached a very small percent of our available contacts; but over the up-coming months we will be hard at work bringing the petition to everyone’s attention and gaining support on this urgent issue. We then plan to present the petition signatures and personal messages to you.
President Bush, we were saddened to learn that years ago you lost a
young family member to leukemia. Your little sister and countless other
loved ones have suffered senselessly and died prematurely. This is the
kind of loss and pain we must work together to prevent. Did you know that
children whose families use pesticides have a greater incidence of
leukemia? With that said, President Bush, in the name of simple decency
and justice, please remember your words: "human life is precious and
should not be exploited or destroyed for the benefits of others". The
cause and effect issue is well documented so please, acknowledge toxic
injuries ("MCS"), our needs and our rights. By signing the proclamation
you can help protect all citizens, young and old alike by giving them
their right to know about the safety or lack there-of that exists in our
every day products and surroundings and by informing them that safer
choices and products are readily available.
Attached is an
up-dated copy of our proclamation for your signature. Only the date has
been changed from 2002 to state 2003 and forward.
